Walgreens (now Sycamore-owned) announced expanded workforce reductions and accelerated closure timeline in February 2026 — eliminating 628 positions primarily at the Deerfield, IL headquarters and a Houston logistics center. The closures are part of the previously announced 1,200-store reduction (announced October 2024) that Sycamore has now pulled forward. Walgreens’ central-fill micro-fulfillment model — 11 distribution centers serving 4,500+ stores, targeting 6,000+ — is enabling further pharmacy consolidation.
